Can you pick up your packages from the post office with your out of state license?

send securely
rougejeweler asked:

I am not doing anything illegal, I’ve been living at my current address for almost a year, and been my receiving my mail, and packages as such. I just dont have my licence for this state yet. I bought an item on ebay and the seller told me my item had been shipped back in december and sent me a picture of the receipt they had bought from the post office for my item. She also told me that went to her psot office to check and found out that a notice had been left for me from my postal carrier about this package.
i remember signing this notice and leaving securely in my mail box for the mailcarrier to find so my package could be delievered, but it since has not been delivered. I dont know if the item has been sent back to the sender, or if its waiting a t the post office for me. Help!!!

They are going to want to see something with your correct address. Maybe after a year (which does violate the law in many states) it is time to get a license where you live.

You sure can. If you’ve been receiving mail there for a year now they have records of this. You can also take past mailings with you to show them its really you.

Talk to them. Every post office has someone in the back that can make such decisions. Like a Post Office Manager. If the teller in the front doesn’t help ask for “the man or woman in charge.”

If you have a passport that would be good because you won’t have to explain this entire story to them. I’ve picked up mail at the post office with my passport before when I couldn’t find my state diver’s license.

    Cheers.

EDIT: I spoke to my postman this afternoon and he said all you need is ID that states your name. So go in with what you have. Cheers.

Signing the notice, in and of itself, will not effect a delivery. USPS does not use and “absentee” signature for deliveries.

Maybe it isn’t that the package needs a signature, but is too large for the mail receptacle, and there is no secure place to leave it for you.

Go to your local PO and inquire about the package. It is likely that it may have already been returned as unclaimed.
