laptops not connecting to internet.could my wireless chip be damaged?

send securely
masterskier25 asked:

i just sent my asus g1s-a1 laptop in for repair about a week ago and got it back yesterday. it had TONS of problems..mainly blue screen, yaty yaty yata, etc

before…i used to be able to get on the internet fine wirelessly. now i put my laptop back on my desk (same place ive always kept it) and now it cant find my connection and my routers just under my room. the wirless card’s enabled, etc. but it says tht its out of range of any connections.

then when i plugged it in, it seemed to find my connection????

then when i unplugged it, it kinda just died (the connection)

could it be possible tht my wireless chip was damaged on the way back? cuz it wasnt packaged very securely. but it doesnt seem any damage is done

o, btw its running vista home premium

It is possible that your card was damaged. It is also possible that there is a conflict between Windows and the laptop’s default connection monitor. I would start by checking the system tray and see if there is another program running that is attempting to control the wireless card. If not, I would then check to make sure that the card was not disabled by using the Fn key along with the wireless key. If your laptop has a manual switch, make sure that is on as well. If none of those is the problem, check to make sure the drivers are all installed. Download driver updates for your card, if applicable. If all of that fails, then you may need to have the card itself replaced. The internet works when plugged in because it is not using the wireless card, it is using the ethernet port.
