Looking for some input. I bought my son an X box 360 3 years ago. Since then I have had to send 4 different X boxs back to Microsoft of which they would send me a new one back. Each time the X box they provide has worked either for a month or up to a year but then all of the sudden the dreaded “Red ring of death” occurs. This has happened on 4 X boxs I have had already. I just got a new X box sent to my by Microsoft today. before I try to hook it up and see if it works I wanted to see if there was anything that I should be doing to ensure it works properly or if there is anything that I may be doing that is causing me to crash these X Boxs. When I have the X Box i hook it up to a good, new TV, plug the power source/box securely in the back of the X box and then securely in a power surge protector, then I hook up the AV jacks firmly into the X box and then into the TV. Thats all you do to hook it up right? I dont have my son on X box live as of yet so I am not doing any type of eternet connection as of yet. Basically, I want to know why I have gone thru so many X boxs that all of the sudden get the red ring of death and what I can possibly do to avoid it? Tips are welcome

IDK, maybe you just have bad luck.
It may be how you take care of your console, do you have the xbox in the upright position? If so, lay it flat.
Keep the console somewhere that doesn’t cover the vents so that it can breathe.
I’ve only had to send one xbox back and I’ve had the same one since 2006.
did you set it on carpet? that will overheat it which will cause the 3 rings of death. it happened 2 me. make sure the xbox360 can breath. try buying an intercooler for it.

Not too much you can do. I’ve gone through 6 myself. Only thing I can suggest is ensure you box is somewhere it will get open airflow. Over heating in them is a big problem. I leave mine on top of the box it came in in front of my tv.
Hi!!! me Add no orkut,
Thank you. Kisses…
Look at the serial number sticker on the back of the system. It has a month/year manufacture date on it. If the console was manufactured before 08/08, then it was either chip set number 1 or 2, which will red-ring. If the date is after, then you have chip set number 3 (Jasper) and you are fine. Just keep the system flat and keep it free of dust (preferably not right on the floor) and keep a 3 inch area around the entire console for ventilation.
Keep it in a sort of open space, lay it flat on a flat surface, don’t lay objects on top of it and just take care of it.
I’m still on my first Xbox 360, never had a problem with it.
Well, they’re amazing systems once you can look past the problem with the reliability. Hope it doesn’t die again.
